Our Son's Idea
When our son was 13, we were spending a typical Fall Saturday raking leaves in the yard, loading the truck, and then unloading it at our town's compost site. After the third trip that day, the sun started to go down along with our spirits. We were tired. But once again, with weary backs and sore knees, we climbed back into the truck bed to rake, sweep, and kick the final load of leaves out. As we were both standing in the bed of the truck, he said: "Dad, this sucks. There has got to be a better way." I looked down at the leaves up to our knees and looked across the parking lot at all the miserable people standing in their trucks doing the same thing-- and I knew he was right!
On our way home, we stopped at the hardware store and bought a couple of tarps, rope, and duct tape and started making a prototype. The next weekend, we loaded it up with leaves, and the tarps ripped to shreds. We almost quit but deep down we knew the idea was good, and we just needed a better design and more robust materials. So we began to work with some professionals in American manufacturing, and after countless failures and redesigns, the BagYak you see here on this website was born!
